Catawba River Women, by Carla Linster – April 12, 2012
One of my
favorite events is starting again: the Mount Holly Farmers Market.
Beginning May 12 and continuing through next fall, vendors will gather 8 a.m.-noon every
Saturday on South Main Street
next to City Cafe to sell meat, produce, baked goods and plants.
And just
about every Saturday, unless we are out of town, my husband and I will make an
enjoyable and leisurely shopping morning, visiting with friends and keeping up
with community events.
At this month's Catawba
River Women’s Group luncheon, Leigh Brinkley of the Mount Holly Farmers Market will speak about the market and her new project, The Catawba River Market. You are invited to attend (see details below).
We will
also hear about the Belmont Farmers Market and community-supported agriculture (where you can buy directly from local farmers).
Why buy at a farmers market or from a local farm?
Buying from small producers helps them develop their business, test new
products, and make more profit on expensive products while still offering savings
to the consumer.
As a consumer, you get to know where your food comes from and the people who grew it, and you can be proud in knowing your money
supports local farming's economical health.
You don't need to wait until May 12 to start enjoying fresh produce. The Belmont Farmers Market will open for the season 3:30-6:30 p.m. Friday,
April 20, on North Main Street.
Doesn't visiting a farmers market sound like a
wonderful way to start a spring weekend?
You're invited to the Catawba River Women’s Group
April luncheon
All women are welcome to attend the April 26 luncheon
program on farmers markets, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pine Island Country

One new joy is working with “an amazing group of women,” the Catawba River
