A Sweet Spot

Keep It Local, by Barbara Lawrence – June 6, 2012
East Central Avenue in Mount Holly has become home to new businesses and soon will become a great connector from Main Street to the new linear park.  Downtown is reconnecting to the river, parks, the future greenways and recreation. This promises a healthy future for business, residents and visitors alike.

Historically, small business accounts for over 80% of new jobs. Neighborhood business clusters and downtowns provide space and great locations for new and creative businesses to begin and grow. City investment in updated infrastructure, sidewalks, parking, and much more all work to keep a future momentum for a growing population.

Sugar Diva's Custom Cakes is a sweet place to stop in and visit, located at 124 East Central Avenue.  In addition to custom cakes there is a variety of small sweet treats for spur of the moment indulgence.

What I have always loved about downtowns is that each building reflects a person's creativity, and character in the time it was built.  Each new business has the opportunity to build on the unique features of these spaces.  There is more to see each time you visit.  Each week we explore together through this blog.  And remember, this is just a taste.  We have a lot more exploring to do locally.  There are buildings and small spaces available to start your new venture on this street, and throughout the Catawba River District.
